A former Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma South Constituency, Frits Baffour has joined the campaign team of the Second Deputy Speaker, Alban Sumana Bagbin as the Campaign’s Communications Director.
The veteran journalist, Communications Consultant and movie star turned politician was officially outdoored on Monday October 15, 2018 at the Team Bagbin’s Campaign Secretariat at South La estates in Accra.
According to the Presidential hopeful, Alban Sumana Bagbin, who is seeking to annex the flagbearership title of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the immediate past president and candidate for the party, John Mahama, the inclusion of the communications consultant in his Team is a sign of great things to come as the campaign unfolds.
He said he accepted his inclusion unto the team because of his maturity, integrity, his politics and his commitment to the original values of the NDC party as well as the bond of friendship that has existed between them for the past thirty years.
According to the Second Deputy Speaker, the members of his campaign team are painstakingly chosen in order to bring on board quality people who can identify with the core values of the party and can contribute meaningfully to policy proposals for rapid development of the country.
The Member of Parliament for Nadowli Kaleo, emphasized the fact that his team was going to conduct a mature campaign to revive the lost fortunes of the NDC party.
“We are going to be decent, we are going to be mature, we want to share what we believe is the right information for delegates to take the right decision for us to be able to recover and reconstruct our party to focus on its core values and principles.
“That is why we are different from the New Patriotic Party and that is what we believe should be the way forward. A modern Center Left party which cares for the marginalized, the poor, the vulnerable and trying to create a free fair and just society.” He indicated.
In his brief remarks at his outdooring press conference, Fritz Baffour, who played a key role in the late President Mills led NDC administration as the Minister for Information, declared his total support for the candidature of Alban Bagbin for the upcoming internal elections and pledged to support the team to a resounding victory.
He said they are going to conduct clean campaigns devoid of adversarial messages, name calling and personality attacks among others. Instead, they were going to focus on efforts to bring the party back to its roots of probity, accountability and fairness for all in the society.
“What we are going to do is to work very hard to get the message of the original values of our party across to our party members and then also to the country at large. So I would eschew adversarial politics. It is not about personalities now.
“We all know it is politics…if there is anything I am going to criticize, I am going to criticize his policies. We are going to criticize it if there is anything else, from the point of view of the substance of the policy and not individuals and personalities. That is very wrong in politics.” He indicated.
He debunked some narrative in the media landscape that suggested that he had betrayed the trust of former President Mahama to join the campaign of ASK Bagbin. He indicated that he has never been a part of the campaign team of the former president and therefore it would be erroneous for anyone to accuse him of any betrayal of trust.
He added that, he made the choice to join Mr. Bagbin’s Team because he is a good man and a good man for the party. He is a man who has demonstrated commitment to the values and principles of the party.
Fritz Baffour hails from Korle Gonno, in the Greater Accra region and was born on the 11th of March, 1952.
He has an MA in Mass Communication from the Leicester University in UK and was a communication consultant with Tropical Vision Strom Company Limited before becoming an MP.
